50 Men Share Their Favorite Chick Flicks

When it comes to shared custody of the remote control, things can get complicated. No relationship has ever been tested as much as the first time you’re cohabitating during NBA playoffs. Seriously, why are there so many games! But like all marital challenges, compromise is key here and we’re in your corner.

There is a world of TV outside of ESPN and believe it or not, we don’t actually *have* to listen to people talk about what they think will happen in a game, watch the game for ourselves, and then follow it up with commentary on what other people thought happened in the game. Sound like a night in your house? I get it.

Movie nights follow a similar pattern and if it’s not Marvel or a gruesome action movie you might be out of luck. (But seriously, we will watch Black Panther any day) The good news is that your man might be more likely to trust his own.

So we went straight to the source and asked 50 men what their favorite chick flicks were – and there were some clear favorites.

Best Rom Coms That Men Enjoy

Hitch

Between Eva Mendes and Will Smith as the leads, there is very little to dislike about this movie. It’s a classic rom com with gold comedic talent that will have you both laughing and smiling. Pro tip: Have a follow up debate on Eva Mendes or Eva Longoria – could be a gateway to watching Desperate Housewives together.

The Notebook

I was surprised this one made it on the list. Seems like it would be for more advanced level rom com watchers, but this was our second most popular movie! Ryan Gosling’s heartfelt pleas will have you both swooning in this classic romantic movie.

Legally Blonde

Sahir watched this for the first time in 2020 and I couldn’t believe he hadn’t seen it. We made a pact that he had to watch all the movies Ariana Grande referenced in her thank you next video, naturally.

The Proposal

Sandy B is always a crowd pleasure and this movie is super cute. It deserves a spot in the romcom hall of fame, and if he likes it – you may be able to follow up with Miss Congeniality!

How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Is nostalgia is your thing, you’ll love this older movie with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. Feuding magazine editors place rival bets and, naturally, hilarity ensues.

A Walk to Remember

I’m bias because this is my all time favorite movie. I can watch it on a sad day, a rainy day, or a Saturday afternoon. Young Mandy Moore is darling and yes, has the voice of an angel. Be warned that this is not for Romcom newbies!

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

First of all, this entire trilogy is amazing. Sahir maintains that it’s his favorite Rom Com trilogy and best of all – it’s new! If you’re looking for something to ease into the romcom movie world, this is a safe bet. The characters are likeable and cute + bonus points for a diverse lead cast.

50 First Dates

Something about Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler makes for comedy gold. This wasn’t a personal favorite of mine (people repeating things is actually a huge pet peeve!) but I can understand why the boys added it to the list.

Love Actually

British accents and a Christmas themed movie? Yes please! If you can make it through this movie with an all star cast you could be on your way to Hallmark Christmas Movie season which we all know is the best time of year.

Final Thoughts on Best Rom Coms That Men Enjoy

Turns out, men like romcoms too! We just have to find the right one. If you have a rookie, you might want to try something with a high comedy twist like Pitch Perfect. But if you are working with a seasoned vet bring on the Sex and The City movies! As a fun follow up, you can spend the rest of the evening categorizing all of your friends into Carries, Mirandas, Samanthas, & Charlottes — ooh!
